I just arrived home from the beautiful Arts and Stripes Exhibit at the Work House near Washington, DC. My husband, Victor has many pieces featured in the show from documenting our military and is headed to Afghanistan soon to embed with a Medivac unit for three weeks. At the opening, we met an extraordinary young man, Lance Corporal William ‘Kyle’ Carpenter. Kyle’s amazing story and on going recovery from devastating wounds as a result of a grenade attack, are being documented by combat artists and were featured at the exhibit.

In honor of Independence Day I am sharing Kyle’s story with you, written by Michael D Fay for the NY Times.

Since freedom is not free I want to thank all of the men and women who serve and the brave combat artists who tell their stories.
