It’s that time of year again when I invite you to trade in your New Year’s resolutions for something that will not only open your mind and heart but will also powerfully clear the way for what you actually want to create in the next 12 months.
I don’t know about you, but personally, resolutions have never really worked for me. To be totally honest, in the past I’d overpromise myself or make a goal that was too big…and then when I inevitably didn’t follow through, I’d feel like total crap (hello, still a tiny bit of a recovering perfectionist ;).
Do you feel me? The thing about New Year’s resolutions and why we so often fail at them is that just saying you’re going to suddenly make a big change in your life usually isn’t enough to make it stick.
Resolutions can often be a kind of one-dimensional goal setting: it’s only forward-thinking. It’s like we’re skipping a step and expecting ourselves to just wake up on January 2nd marching to a new beat. It doesn’t leave space to understand what’s going on under the surface of your current behavior.
To really make a shift, we need to process the year that just happened, celebrate what was awesome, raise our awareness of what we learned and release what is no longer serving us.
If you’re ready to leave all of the crap you don’t want in 2019 so you can step into 2020 confident on what you’re ready to welcome in, I’m sharing the ritual practice I do each and every year with you in this very special episode!
From a therapeutic point of view, the most effective way to make real, lasting change is to first look back for evidence of what has been and hasn’t been working. There is something so powerful about making decisions from a place of awareness and truth.
I want to invite you to give yourself space, time and the luxury of thinking about these things in a real way. I’ve found this exercise and ritual to be a profound act of self-care, which is why I keep returning to it year after year. I hope that you do as well.
As you move through the journaling exercises, you might feel some resistance, but I promise you, it’s this kind of reflection that will help you process the crappy stuff so that you can make conscious decisions about what you do want your life to feel and be like this year.
It really is essential because if we don’t learn from our behavioral choices from the previous year, what do you think happens?
We repeat them. And I so don’t want that for you. I know that you’re strong enough to dig deep and to do hard things.
We are REALLY going to get to the bottom of what you learned from any of the situations or experiences in the last year that didn’t go the way you wanted them to. While some of those can and will be painful to re-examine, this is how we as humans learn and grow – instead of beating yourself up feeling guilty or wallowing in regret, we focus that energy on gleaning the wisdom from those not so great events.
Once we’ve got the beautiful clarity that comes from self-awareness and honest reflection, we’ll move into what we DO want in 2020!
In the downloadable ritual kit, there’s space for you to declare what you want to call in and how you want to FEEL in every area of your life!
You’ll be declaring, as my pal Danielle LaPorte says, “Goals with Soul”, and then supporting them with a visualization practice because whatever you spend the most psychological energy on in your life is what you’ll attract.
You deserve to create the life that you want, but you’ve gotta be willing to work for it. That is on you. No one else can do that for you, but I’m hoping that this beautiful ritual will be a pivot point for you if you’ve been stuck. Acknowledge the crap, learn what you can learn from it, and then let it go so you can move into 2020 with bright eyes and an optimistic vibe on what is possible for you! Remember: all the answers that you need are really within you.
I can’t wait to hear how this goes for you! Leave me a comment and let me know what you’re leaving and what you’re creating!
If you like this and you think someone else could benefit from it, please share it on your social media platforms.
For those of you who are celebrating, happy holidays! Thank you for all of your love and support. It’s because of you that I get to do what I do. I cannot wait to hang out with you in 2020 and help you build the life, the relationship, and the career that thrills you.
Team TC and I will be back after the New Year and ON FIRE for Real Love Revolution season with a ton of new, amazing goodies coming your way so stay tuned and as always, take care of you.

I can’t believe it has been a year almost since I first joined your site.
Thank you for your wisdom and ideas. I am always doing something new but like your site as it helps with self love.
Thank you so much for being here for a year! And I am so glad to hear it’s a resource that helps you.
you have helped me so much realizing I am 50% responsible for what is going on in relationships, holidays this year were wonderful. I had to let go of having a healthy family which I cant change, very toxic and love them from a distance, went to the beach Thanksgiving, Gatlinburg, Tn. on Xmas and wished them Merry Xmas.
Right on Brenda!! Thank you for sharing this. I am cheering you on as you grow and take charge of your life.
