I thought I would feel differently. I had made it, so why didn’t I feel satisfied, happy, fulfilled, or joyful?

Throughout the years I spent working my way up to a position of power in the entertainment industry, I imagined that the feeling I was seeking was on the other side of my next promotion, big raise, or famous client. But it wasn’t.

I had spent nearly a decade of my life working towards a goal, chasing a feeling, only to arrive and feel exactly the opposite of what I had imagined. My decision to quit my job to get a graduate degree to become a psychotherapist was met with concern (my Dad) and confusion (everyone else). There is not a day that goes by that I am not grateful that I did follow my heart and make that career change.

This is for all of you who might be on a path, chasing a feeling that isn’t there. My brilliant pal and soul sister, Danielle LaPorte, has some words of wisdom about goals with soul that might just save you a decade of your life. She says that in order to achieve your true desire, you must…

Turn your ambitions inside out

According to Danielle, we have goal setting all wrong. All of us, at sometime or another, have made an object, person, job, or situation the source of our happiness, yet once achieved, we are still frustrated and the happiness doesn’t last.

By defining your core desired feelings, you can create a map for success. You can learn how to shift your entire life by allowing your inspiration to come from within rather than from an external source. Can you see the difference?

In her newly released Desire Map, Danielle also debunks the balance myth, proving it’s a trap for inaction and overwhelm. So before the holiday overwhelm of food, obligations, travel, and spending, I am inviting you to spend an hour breaking down desire with Danielle and me.

Listen today at 12:00 p.m. EST / 9:00 am PST or
on the Hay House Radio app

(You can also access the archive of the show to listen to at your convenience.)

We will be breaking down why you want to uncover your core desired feelings so you can use them as a guide in all areas of your life. Now, all of my decisions start from my core desired feelings (freedom, abundance, love, inspiration). If an opportunity or relationship will not bring about one of those four feelings, it’s a NO. This has significantly simplified my life and increased my level of happiness.

Imagine how incredible it would feel to bring a new, fresh perspective into your holidays and on through into 2014—making decisions on all of what you want to achieve based on how you want to feel?

Let Danielle and I share with you how to do just that.

We hope to see you there.

And please drop a comment below about your desires and, more importantly, how you imagine those desires will make you feel.

Then name one action step you can take to feel that way this week.

I hope you have an amazing week, tapped into your desires, and, as always, take care of you.

  1. Hi Teri!

Your blog and your e-mails are amazing, thank you! So my dream is to be what you used to be but now I’m having second thoughts. I love the entertainment industry and want to cast and write and produce…lots of things that I’m passionate about. Is it different for everyone? Should I take your experience as a sign that maybe it’s not the right thing for me?

    1. Marjorie,

Thank You so much! I am so glad you find them helpful.
On Dreams… Everyone’s desires are different and that is beautiful and what makes us so unique. Follow what makes you feel good. When you align your choices and actions with your desires, it won’t matter what other people are doing because you will be exactly on track with you soul’s goals.
Keep on Mapping and Take Care of you!
